Hyundai Oil Change Cost by Model: Tucson, Elantra, Santa Fe & More

Hyundai has become one of the best-selling brands in America, and their oil changes are refreshingly affordable. Unlike luxury European vehicles that demand specialized certification oils, most Hyundais use widely available 0W-20 synthetic that keeps costs low. But how much you actually pay depends on the model and where you go.

We have been servicing Hyundais at our shop on El Camino Real in San Carlos since 1976. Here is a straightforward breakdown of what Hyundai oil changes cost at different places on the San Francisco Peninsula, what each model requires, and how to get the best value.

Hyundai Oil Change Cost by Service Location

The biggest factor in what you pay is where you take your car. Here is what Hyundai owners on the Peninsula can expect in 2026:

Service Location
Typical Cost
Wait Time

Quick-service shop (Perfect Lube)
$60 – $80

No
Independent mechanic
$45 – $75

$65 – $110

The dealership premium comes down to overhead, not better oil. Dealer service departments carry higher real estate costs, employ dedicated service advisors, and build margin into every service. The oil and filter going into your engine are the same regardless of where you go, as long as the shop uses the correct spec.

Cost by Hyundai Model

The price difference between Hyundai models comes down to oil capacity. Most use affordable 0W-20 synthetic, and even the largest Hyundai engines hold under 7 quarts. Here is what each model costs at Perfect Lube versus a Hyundai dealer:

Model
Oil Capacity
Perfect Lube
Dealer
Elantra
4.2 qt · 0W-20
~$60
$75–$95
Kona
4.2 qt · 0W-20

Tucson
5.1 qt · 0W-20
~$65
$80–$105
Sonata
5.1 qt · 0W-20

$80–$105
Santa Fe
5.1 qt · 0W-20

$85–$110
Santa Fe (Turbo)
5.1 qt · 0W-20
~$65
$85–$110
Palisade
6.3 qt · 5W-30
~$70
$90–$120

At Perfect Lube, our $60–$80 price covers up to 6 quarts, which handles most Hyundai models. Even the Palisade falls within a reasonable range.

What Oil Does a Hyundai Actually Need?

Most 2020 and newer Hyundais use 0W-20 full synthetic oil meeting API SP or ILSAC GF-6 specifications. This includes the Tucson, Elantra, Santa Fe, Sonata, and Kona. The 2.5L turbo engine in higher-trim Tucson and Santa Fe models still uses 0W-20, not a heavier weight.

The main exception is the Palisade with the 3.8L V6, which uses 5W-30 synthetic. Some older Hyundai models also use 5W-30 or 5W-20. We carry both specs at Perfect Lube, so every Hyundai that drives in gets the correct oil.

Dealer vs. Independent Shop: What Are You Actually Paying For?

The oil and filter going into your Hyundai are identical whether you are at a dealership or a qualified independent shop. Both use oils meeting the same API SP specification and OEM-quality filters. The difference is entirely in labor rate and overhead.

Bay Area Hyundai dealerships charge $65–$110 for a standard oil change. A quick-service specialist like Perfect Lube has even lower overhead because the drive-thru model eliminates the need for a service counter, loaner cars, and a waiting room. We use sealed bottles of MOTUL or Mobil 1 synthetic, opened in front of you every time.

Your Hyundai warranty is not affected by where you get your oil changed. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act explicitly protects your right to use any qualified service provider. Keep your receipts showing the correct spec oil and OEM-quality filters were used, and your warranty is fully intact.
